Course Overview
Whether you want to coach, volunteer or just keep fit and have fun, the choice is yours. You decide where sport and leisure activity fits into your life. This programme is designed to help support the learner’s personal development through acquiring skills and knowledge in sport, exercise and fitness. The qualification also allows learners to gain personal transferrable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study. This qualification will focus on the study of the sport within the leisure sector, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge and provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills. Learners will gain an understanding of the sport, exercise and leisure vocational sector, study areas of particular interest, and encourage learners to adopt a fitter and healthier lifestyle.
The unit award and qualification is portfolio based and practical in activity and has a selection of mandatory units such as Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Nutrition and Leisure Time and contains several vocational units focused on the industry standards from Entry Level – Level 1:

A Typical Day at Rock Solid
Arrival 09:15-09.30 Discuss plans and bookings for the day ahead
Session 1 09:30-10:30 Design a fun activity for the under 8’s
Break 10:30-10.45 Quick snack and drink.
Session 2 10.45-12:30 Research types of music, resources and materials to use
Lunch 12:30-13:15 Lunch break.
Session 3 13:15-15:30 Identify associated costs and visit suitable premises
*There will be some unsociable hours for those entering the world of work and for events this is to ensure that full exposure to the industry is experienced.
What Next?
The experience and qualifications (where appropriate) can lead to gaining new skills, interests and knowledge to live an active life, live independently and or progress to further study, supported internship, traineeship, apprenticeship or employment. The course aims to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy an active lifestyle. Learners will gain an understanding of how to plan for sporting or leisure activities, improve fitness and mobility and encourage others to be active. It will encourage learners to transfer skills learnt to other areas in their life and inspire others by passing on their knowledge. The course is based on the proposition that being active is an essential life skill which empowers people to make changes that have benefits to health and wellbeing.
